Macrophage Interaction Analysis Services

Macrophage Interaction: An Emerging Therapeutic Development Focal

Macrophages are specialized cells within the innate immune system that are both long-lived and possess phagocytic properties. Since these cells tend to gather in submucosal tissue, they are frequently the first line of defense against invading pathogens. The interactions between macrophages and other cells or antigens often dictate the onset and progression of various diseases like tumors. Despite this, our current knowledge of these macrophage interactions is rather limited, and in-depth exploration of their mechanisms remains a focus of ongoing research. To support this area of study, Creative Biolabs offers a comprehensive platform that tests therapeutics designed to alter the interaction between macrophages and other cells and antigens.

Function Differences Among Human-Derived and Mouse-Derived Macrophages

There are several functional differences between human and mouse-derived macrophages:

Activation Status and Function

Macrophages are normally activated with a classically activated M1 phenotype and a selectively activated M2 phenotype to perform proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory functions in the immune system, respectively. However, human and mouse-derived macrophages differ in these two phenotypes.

Surface Markers

Most of the active molecules in the immune system are glycoproteins, which are involved in recognition, regulation, signaling, etc. Most of the surface markers of polarized macrophages are glycoproteins, and the expression of these surface markers varies in different species, resulting in functional differences.

Protein Expression Profiling

Studies have demonstrated that there are differences in protein expression profiles between mouse and human polarized macrophages, and some phenotypic markers of polarization are not shared by humans and mice, resulting in different biological functions of human and mouse macrophages at the level of protein expression.
