FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

What is the advantage of using M0 macrophages compared with pre-polarized M1 or M2 cells?

M0 macrophages are unpolarized, providing a flexible starting point for investigating differentiation and plasticity under various conditions. Using M0 cells lets you define your own polarization protocols, apply different cytokine cocktails, or test novel modulators without the bias of a pre-established phenotype.

How easily can these M0 macrophages be polarized into M1 or M2 phenotypes?

They respond efficiently to standard polarization stimuli. When cultured with appropriate cytokine combinations or in our dedicated M1/M2 generation media, M0 macrophages develop clear M1 or M2 profiles, including marker expression and functional readouts.

What culture conditions do you recommend for maintaining the M0 state before polarization?

We suggest using our General Macrophage Medium and maintaining standard culture conditions with regular medium changes. Avoid unnecessary inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimuli until you are ready to initiate your polarization protocol. Under these controlled conditions, the M0 cells remain stable and ready for your customized differentiation steps.

  • These M0 cells are ideal for mechanism-of-action studies
We use them to track signaling events from the moment a compound is applied through to full polarization. The cells show clear changes in gene expression and cytokine profiles, making them very informative for pathway analysis.
  • Thawing and plating were straightforward, and the cells adhered well
They remained healthy over several days, allowing us to run back-to-back experiments with different polarization protocols using the same batch. This consistency has been a real advantage for our team.
  • Overall, the M0 macrophages have proved to be a reliable and flexible tool
Their responsiveness to both pro- and anti-inflammatory stimuli is excellent, and we have been able to generate very clean comparative datasets with them.
