FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

Is this General Macrophage Medium suitable for both human and rodent macrophages, including primary cells?

Yes. The medium is formulated to support a broad range of macrophage types, including primary human and rodent macrophages as well as monocyte-derived macrophage cultures. It provides balanced nutrients, growth factors, and serum to sustain viability, adherence, and function in typical in vitro conditions. Many users standardize on this medium to reduce variability when working with multiple species in parallel.

Does the medium contain serum, and can I adjust the serum level if needed?

The standard formulation is supplied as a complete medium with optimized serum content to support robust macrophage growth and function. If your protocol requires alternative serum levels or specific serum sources, please contact us for guidance.

Does the medium contain antibiotics, and is an antibiotic-free version available?

The standard version includes antibiotics for routine culture convenience. However, we understand that some assays or downstream applications (e.g., microbiome-related work, sensitive omics analyses) require antibiotic-free conditions. An antibiotic-free formulation is available upon request, allowing you to maintain full control over experimental variables while preserving the same basal composition.

  • Switching to this General Macrophage Medium significantly improved the consistency of our macrophage cultures
Both human monocyte-derived macrophages and rat primary cells showed better survival, adherence, and functional responses compared with our previous in-house medium. It has become a staple in our lab.
  • We use the antibiotic-free version for experiments involving live bacteria
The basal formulation still supports excellent macrophage viability and function, and our contamination rate actually decreased because we refined our aseptic techniques. It's a very solid, flexible medium.
  • Our team can now focus more on the biology and less on solving culture issues, which is a big plus
Overall, this is a high-quality macrophage medium that has reduced our need for extensive in-house optimization.
