FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

What is the purity of this cell population? How do you confirm they are alveolar macrophages?

These cells are highly purified. We confirm their identity as macrophages by testing for positive expression of the pan-macrophage marker CD11b via flow cytometry. Alveolar macrophages are also often characterized by high autofluorescence and expression of markers like CD206, which you can verify in your own assays.

What are the most common applications for these cells?

Being the primary immune cell in the lung, they are ideal for any in vitro research related to pulmonary inflammation, respiratory diseases (like asthma, COPD, or fibrosis), lung infections (viral or bacterial), and inhalation toxicology. They are perfect for phagocytosis assays, cytokine release profiling, and gene expression studies in response to lung-specific stimuli.

How many cells are in one vial, and what is the expected viability after thawing?

Each vial contains a guaranteed cell count (please refer to the lot-specific datasheet for the exact number, as it can vary). We guarantee high viability upon thawing, provided you follow our handling protocol exactly. This includes immediately storing the vial in liquid nitrogen upon receipt and using the recommended thawing procedure and culture medium.

  • We were thrilled to find these
These are the best primary alveolar macrophages our lab has ever worked with. We study influenza infection, and the response from these cells was robust and much more physiologically relevant than cell lines. Viability was>95% post-thaw. Worth every penny.
  • They adhered well and were ready for experiments within 24 hours
We used these for a study on bacterial pneumonia. The cells were highly active and produced a strong pro-inflammatory response upon challenge with S. pneumoniae. The QC data provided gave us great confidence in our results.
  • Will definitely be ordering again
The donor screening is essential for our lab's safety standards. They performed well in our fibrosis co-culture model. Make sure to follow the handling instructions precisely, as they are sensitive primary cells.
