FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

What is the functional state of these "elicited" macrophages?

These cells are in a pre-activated, pro-inflammatory state. They are not naïve M0 cells. They are known for their high phagocytic capacity and are primed for a robust inflammatory response.

What is the BALB/c strain used for?

The BALB/c strain has a Th2-biased immune system. These elicited macrophages are therefore a common model for studying macrophage function in the context of parasitic infections (like Leishmania) or allergic inflammation.

Are these "resident" or "elicited" peritoneal macrophages?

This product contains 6 x 10^6 cells, which is a high-yield. This indicates they are thioglycollate-elicited macrophages. The mice were injected with thioglycollate to recruit a large population of activated, inflammatory macrophages to the peritoneal cavity.

  • We got a very strong inflammatory signal from them
We use these for our in vitro Leishmania infection model, and they work perfectly every time. This saves us the 4-day thioglycollate injection and harvest protocol. A huge time-saver.
  • Will be using these regularly
Very 'angry' macrophages, just as you'd expect from a thio-prep. High viability. Be aware they are not M0 cells. They are already activated. This was perfect for our needs.
  • The 6M count is great
Clean, viable, and a large cell count. We use these for studying the resolution of inflammation. The BALB/c background is critical. We're very happy with this product.
