These are thioglycollate-elicited peritoneal macrophages isolated from a 129 mouse strain. They are in a pre-activated, inflammatory state due to the thioglycollate injection.
The 129 strain is the background for many common embryonic stem cell lines used to create knockout mice. If your in vivo studies use a 129-background mouse, these macrophages are the correct genetic control for your in vitro validation experiments.
Elicitation with thioglycollate recruits a very large number of highly phagocytic, inflammatory macrophages. This product gives you a large cell count (6 million) of activated cells, which is ideal for functional assays like phagocytosis, ROS bursts, or inflammasome activation, without needing to stimulate them in vitro.
