Human PB CD14+ Monocytes (Age: 66), 5 x 10^7 cells (MTS-1022-JF56)

Overview

Description
Monocytes are immune cells that form an important bridge between the innate and adaptive immune response. These cells exist in various phenotypes based on cell surface marker expression and participate in the pathobiology of many systemic diseases. CD14 is known as monocyte differentiation antigen on the surface of myeloid lineage. This protein has a major role in immune recognition and reactivation. CD14+ monocytes are perhaps the most readily available precursors used to generate macrophages and dendritic cells, provide an ideal model for the study of macrophage biology and mechanisms.
These human CD14+ monocytes are purified from peripheral blood, with the highest viability and plating efficiency. Peripheral blood is collected from donors who have screend for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV-1, HIV-2, WNV, and CMV.
Isolated cells are characterized flow cytometry to ensure the enrichment of CD14+ cells.
5 x 10^7 cells per vial.
Cells are negative for bacteria, yeast, fungi, and mycoplasma.
Repeated freezing and thawing of cells is not recommended.

FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

We're studying age-associated innate immune shifts. What makes an age-66 donor lot useful?

Age-defined lots help you align the starting biology with your hypothesis-especially for projects examining baseline inflammatory tone, altered responsiveness to TLR ligands, or differentiation propensity. Using a consistent age bracket can improve interpretability when comparing to younger donors or when building an aging-focused donor panel.

How should we handle shipping receipt if our lab is closed for a weekend?

Because the product ships on dry ice, you should plan for same-day receipt and immediate transfer to liquid nitrogen. If weekend delivery is a concern, schedule shipment for a staffed day or arrange internal receiving coverage. Avoid any thawing cycles during transit/receipt to protect viability and reproducibility.

Does 5×10^7 cells per vial support both phenotyping and functional assays from the same lot?

Yes. A 5×10^7 vial typically supports parallel workflows-e.g., post-thaw phenotyping to confirm marker expression plus functional stimulation or differentiation. It's a practical size for teams who need multiple readouts from the same donor lot without compromising comparability.

  • It's a professional-grade product
Post-thaw, the cells showed minimal debris and a predictable recovery profile. We saw robust responses to standard stimuli and clear cytokine patterns with lower background noise than our previous donor-derived isolates. The donor age information was clearly provided, supporting our study design.
  • Packaging was secure and clearly labeled
Our lab used these monocytes in a co-culture model with epithelial cells to study inflammatory signaling and macrophage cross-talk. The cells differentiated cleanly, tolerated the co-culture period, and produced interpretable changes in marker expression. We appreciated that the cells behaved consistently across plates, which helped our statistics and reduced the need for extra replicates.
  • From a project management standpoint, the value here is reliability
The 5×10^7 format supported multiple downstream workflows without bottlenecks, and cell performance reduced troubleshooting time. We achieved consistent macrophage differentiation and clear functional responses in our assays. The documentation and labeling supported traceability, and shipping was handled professionally.
