While both are M0 macrophages, their genetic background is the key difference. BALB/c macrophages are known to polarize more readily to an M2 (anti-inflammatory) phenotype and produce a different cytokine profile upon stimulation compared to B6 macrophages, which are Th1-biased.
The BALB/c mouse strain is known for its strong Th2-biased immune response. Therefore, these BALB/c-derived BMDMs are the ideal choice for in vitro studies related to asthma, allergic inflammation, parasitic infections, and other Th2-mediated diseases.
This vial contains 6 x 10^6 (6 million) cells. They are differentiated into naïve (M0) macrophages from bone marrow precursors, making them a perfect blank slate for your polarization experiments.
