Aged macrophages are a critical tool for studying age-related diseases. They exhibit known functional differences compared to young/adult cells, such as a basal pro-inflammatory state (inflammaging), altered metabolic profiles, and impaired phagocytic or efferocytic capacity.
They are cultured as bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs), which are technically M0. However, due to their aged source, you should expect them to have a different baseline phenotype (e.g., higher basal IL-6 expression) compared to M0 cells from a young (8-12 week old) mouse.
The cell count per vial can vary by lot, as yields from aged mice can be different. Please check the product-specific details or contact our sales team for the exact cell count in the currently available batch.
