FAQs Customer Reviews Related Products

Why would I purchase aged macrophages instead of just using standard adult ones?

Aged macrophages are a critical tool for studying age-related diseases. They exhibit known functional differences compared to young/adult cells, such as a basal pro-inflammatory state (inflammaging), altered metabolic profiles, and impaired phagocytic or efferocytic capacity.

Are these cells M0, or do they have a pre-set phenotype?

They are cultured as bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs), which are technically M0. However, due to their aged source, you should expect them to have a different baseline phenotype (e.g., higher basal IL-6 expression) compared to M0 cells from a young (8-12 week old) mouse.

What is the cell count per vial?

The cell count per vial can vary by lot, as yields from aged mice can be different. Please check the product-specific details or contact our sales team for the exact cell count in the currently available batch.

  • These aged macrophages were exactly what our inflammaging study needed
Good cells, but be aware they are more sensitive than young BMDMs. Handle them gently. That said, they worked perfectly for our senescent cell co-culture model.
  • The CoA confirmed they were from 22-month-old B6 mice
This saved us the cost and time of housing mice for 2 years! The viability was surprisingly high for cells from such old animals. They performed beautifully in our metabolic assay.
  • We saw a clear difference in the basal inflammatory cytokine profile compared to our young controls
A very unique and valuable reagent. We used them to study impaired efferocytosis in aging. The cells definitely showed the expected functional decline. Will be ordering more.
